Theory, Theology and Modernity : Graduate Course in Religious Studies

In the Spring semester 2017, the Project will be funding REL 7559, a new course in Religious Studies at the University of Virginia, co-taught by the Project’s co-directors, Dr. Charles Mathewes and Dr. Paul Jones, titled, “Theory, Theology and Modernity.”

Graduate students from several disciplines at UVa will gather to put “modernity” at the center of inquiry. What is this thing we call modernity? What is this thing we call secularism?

Reading list will likely include works by Saba Mahmood, Charles Taylor, Jose Casanova, and David Hollinger, among others.
