Senior Fellow Atalia Omer

Dr Atalia Omer is an associate professor of sociology and religion, conflict, and peace studies at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and the Department of Sociology at the University of Notre Dame. Her research interests include the theoretical study of the interrelation between religion and nationalism, multiculturalism as a framework for conflict transformation and as a theory of justice, and the intersection of development and gender theory with religious studies. She is the author of When Peace Is Not Enough: How the Israeli Peace Camp thinks about Religion, Nationalism and Justice (2013). She is also co-editor of the Oxford Handbook on Religion, Conflict, and Peacebuilding (forthcoming, Oxford University Press) and has published articles in academic journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Journal of Religious Ethics, and the Journal of Political Theology. Omer earned her Ph.D. in Religion from Harvard University.
